Review of April goals - 7 weeks post

April hair goals - a review

So this is how I have done with my April goals.

1. Drink 1 litre of water a day - this did not go so well, started really strong then fell off the wagon, I will add this to my May goal.

2. Maintain weekly wash days - I achieve this goal, half way I did get box braids so I maintained a healthy washing pattern.

3. M&S every other day - I achieved this goal, my hair is moisturised when needed, only thing I would change is listening to my hair and moisturising when needed.

4. Control my breaking - can't comment on this as I have been in box braids all month.

5. Research and understand on protein hair balance - done thanks to a few other blogs I have a better understanding off hard protein treatments and mild protein treatments, which I have been doing with my deep conditioners.

My next post will be my May goals!! Before I do that just off to get my litre of water heheh.

Happy hair journey ladies! X

6 weeks posts

I am currently 6 weeks post relaxer, and have box braids on, which I properly installed on my own!!

I happened to be in tkmaxx today and say the Paul Mitchell Supper skinny range. I was drawn to it, and really wanted to get the treatment bottle if nothing at all. It was £15 and is £40 retail price! Now I held back for a minute. This hair journey has really been something that needs it's own budget. I decided to leave it, at the moment I feel like the products I am using are really working for me, and don't want to fall into the trap of being a product junkie. Yesterday I got the ORS Aloe Shampoo, for clarifying my hair, and I know it's not expensive but I am really building up my products.

So this is to minimum product usage for now at least.

Happy hair journey. X

Braids wash day - 5 weeks post

I have had my braids on for just under 2 weeks and I think it's due for a wash.

I have been trying to keep my hair healthy underneath the braids. So I spritz my braids with my homemade spritzer and make sure it's done properly through and through. I have also decided to wash my hair every 2 weeks just to keep the hair moisturised with water and clean!!

I am planning on using the same products I use on my regular wash days and run through the same process.

I will omit the pre pooing. Therefore my routine is as below:

1. Wash hair twice with a dark and lovely brand shampoo, with was a moisturising shampoo, I have some dandruff building up in the front of my hair, not sure if I need a chelating or clarifying shampoo, and am experimenting with a new shampoo.

2. I then conditioned my hair with tresemme rich moisturiser conditioner.

3. I rinsed it off then tied my hair in a towel for 2 hours, then let it air dry, this took a while.

4. When my hair had been air drying for a few hours, I moisturised my scalp and ends with my home made spritzer as usual. I made the spritzer slightly more thicker and added hello hydrations herbal essence conditioner, I really love the end feel.

My braids look and feel clean and my scalp is clean, because I had a but if an itchiness during the week I have added a few drops of peppermint oil in my spritzer, to help with this, have an amazing nice feel in my hair now.

From my wash day I did not like the dark and lovely brand shampoo, don't think it cleaned my scalp as good as I would have liked. But we live and learn.

Hope everyone else had a great was day.

Moisturising my box braids

I have now had my box braids on for 2 days now, still getting used to the heaviness of the hair on my head.

Yesterday I moisturised my braids with my homemade hair spritz. It's was super easy, just spritzed it all over my scalp and hair and massaged it through.

My homemade spritz has water, sweet almond oil and my favourite tresemme rich moisturising conditioner.

I am loving my new protective style. I am now 4 weeks post relaxer and hoping to have the braids in for 6 weeks at least.

4. I washed off the conditioner after 10 mins and towel dried, then roller set it. .

5. Using a hand held dry I dried out my hair and then moisturised with ORS carrot oil and sealed with sweet almond oil.

My hair is now ready to braid.

Moisturising and Sealing

Now, when I started my hair journey, I always heard M&S, M&S, M&S. And trust me I thought I was doing it right but no way!!! I hair was not getting all its moist!! And I was just not doing it right!!

Today I watched Tracyee from KISS on youtube M&S her hair! OMG, thank goodness I did this, cause I kept on asking myself why my hair was breaking, turns out I was moisturising and sealing with only my sweet almond oil and using my carrot oil on top of it!! So so so wrong.
My tools, ORS carrot oil, sweet almond oil with lavender oil

This is now my revised process:

1. Section my air dried hair in 4 sections, using my fingers.

2. Then I rubbed some carrot oil on my hairs and started from the bottom of the hair and working up, then sectioned the hair again and moisturised it in all the areas.

3. After this I sealed my moisture with my sweet almond oil with a few drops of lavender oil.

4. After this I combed it through from the bottom first and twisted it back up as I completed the other sections.

5. When all this was done I put a little bit of the sweet almond oil on my scalp in each section and massaged it.

6. After I finished M&S I used my fingers and made a mid way messy loose bun!

My hair feels sooooooooooo soft and amazing! I am really enjoying my hair journey!
Final results

3 weeks post relaxer

I have been entertaining the idea if getting box braids for a month, might have them put in next week, and as I have some time, I will attempt to do this in my own!

Today was my wash day, wanted to have my wash day tomorrow but felt like today would be a better day.

I followed my usual regime minus the black tea rinse. I have ordered some rosemary tea and really wanted to try it out this week but it hasn't arrived yet!! So next week before my box braids go in.

1. I prepooed will my usual tresemme rich moisturising conditioner and sweet almond oil, this stayed in my hair for about 30mins.

2. I washed my hair with my tresemme low sulphate vibrantly smooth shampoo.

3. I mixed my ORS hair mayonnaise with some coconut oil and sweet almond oil and lavender essential oil and deep conditioned for about 2 hours as I did some errands.

4. I rinsed out the conditioner, and applied my S Curl moisturiser and home made water and conditioner spritz, and air dried my hair loosely for 3 hours then in a bun for the rest of the time. I will be M&S tomorrow.

As my tresemme conditioner is almost halfway I will be researching to see what to try next, I love the tresemme but as I am so early on in my hair journey, need to experiment with other different conditioners.

Hope your wash day was just as good!
